Merchant Taylors’ Livery fund new green skills bursaries

It is a great testimony to the work of the Lord Mayor, Alderman Nicholas Lyons and his mother Livery Company, the Merchant Taylors, that this announcement comes to create new bursary grants to help young people learn new green skills.  Working with the City & Guilds Foundation, this project will fund bursaries for five young Londoners to develop new skills in a wide variety of areas from construction to  environmental assessments and electric vehicles; from horticulture to smart metering.   These skills are all new and much needed as London seeks to reach its climate targets.  City & Guilds has a great range of training opportunities but this boost to funding five lucky individuals will be a great incentive.
The launch took place in the Mansion House with the Lord Mayor on 26th October.  Alderman Alison Gowman was pleased to take part in the round table discussion as to how practically we can attract candidates and help mentor  and guide them towards jobs at the end of the courses. Alison is a part of the City Corporation’s Skills for a Sustainable Skyline Taskforce that is looking at growing more skills in construction related work across Central London.  If you know of anyone looking for funding or training  do check out the website at City & Guilds Foundation.
