The state of climate action on the UK charity sector

Alison Gowman took part in a three way conversation in a podcast for Charity Digital. Alison is a board member of the City Bridge Foundation and lead member on delivering their climate action strategy that mirrors the Corporation of London’s own plans. The City Corporation is the corporate charity trustee of the City Bridge Foundation.   With Alison’s wide knowledge of the charity sector she outlines what the City Bridge Foundation are doing for themselves and in their grant making and their leadership in this work.  It is also enlightening to hear from Sila Ugurlu  of the British Youth Council and the advocacy role that they are playing in this field.  The Charity Commission states that there are 184,047 charities in the UK with some £90 billion of income and expenditure and over £200 billion of assets and investments. The size of the sector and the impact that it can have on and for our environment is significant.   Remembering, of course, that climate change and the environment has a disproportionate adverse impact on those in our society who are the most deprived thus making the role of charities in helping their beneficiaries even more demanding under the stress of climate change.
