The City of London School for Girls is right in the heart of the Barbican and the City of London. They have long been leaders in issues around energy and carbon and have now published their first newsletter; Green Shoots.
Led by Aman Kanwar the Head of Economics, the School has been measuring its carbon footprint and calculated this to be 1790 t CO2e. Not satisfied with a number they have broken this down to understand what it really means to each student and member of staff and have looked at the implications. The newsletter also tackles the issues of electric underfloor heating and the school swimming pool.
Next term will see the question of our respective digital footprints and that might provide some equally challenging numbers to digest. They are a great example of making carbon issues real and equipping students for the future.
