Introduction to LCAG blogs
A space for personal views and contributions that will add to the debate and discussions on appropriate responses to the climate change challenge. These blogs do not necessarily reflect the settled views of the Livery Climate Action Group, but in the interests of transparency and inclusivity, the Group considers it important to allow a forum for individual members of the Livery Companies to express their opinions with contributions that may stimulate deeper reflection.
There are no certainties on how best to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and how best to deal with the consequences of climate change. Discussions and debates must be as wide and participative as possible.
This will also be a space where contributions can be made that do not necessarily deal with actions within the scope of the Livery Movement but may cover national and global issues related to climate change
Guidelines for writing blogs for LCAG
LCAG welcomes blogs from members of the Livery on any topic related to the environmental and climate challenges we face. This may be linked to a Company’s area of practice, influence, industry, professions, sector, or supply chain.
Blogs should be challenging and interesting and give a broader perspective than merely following “party lines” in the context of sustainability. They do not need to be long (say around 500 words) and are entirely the author’s personal view with the aim to inform and to promote thought and debate. Blogs should be informative and expand the knowledge of the reader.
The ‘Plastics and Zero Carbon’ blog is a good example as it expands our knowledge on the wide use of plastics and informs readers – see Plastics and Zero-Carbon – By Clive Thompson.
In terms of overall style: Authors should keep a more generalist audience in mind for whatever case they want to make. It helps if there is a a stated purpose and, if possible, arguments should be backed with at least some facts and figures where appropriate, as that makes for a more interesting read and helps people learn more about the subject.
Blogs are not the same as ‘Guidance Notes’ which are specifically to guide the Livery Companies on sustainability and climate change issues and which LCAG review very carefully. Consequently, blogs won’t be edited without the writer’s consent. LCAG website will indicate that blogs are very much the opinion of the writer and should not be taken to represent the views of the LCAG.
It goes without saying that blogs should not be sexist, deliberately misleading, racist, inflammatory etc.
These notes are for guidance only. The decision on whether or not to publish an individual blog rests solely with LCAG. If you want to offer a blog or explore whether your blog is of interest please contact info@liverycag.org.uk
